Give me Jesus
I'm sitting here trying to write my sermon for palm sunday, and as i've begun to delve into the text, i've realized that it all boils down to one thing..... this entire Holy Week can be summed up into one phrase -- GIVE ME JESUS.
The crowds wanted him on Palm sunday -- Give us Jesus, our deliverer!
The Pharisees wanted him dead -- Give us Jesus, we'll silence the rebel!
The Roman Soldiers wanted him beaten and mocked -- Give us Jesus, we'll teach him a lesson!
The crowds again wanted him again on Good Friday -- Give us Jesus to Crucify [and barabbas to set free]
But as i think of Christ, beaten, bruised, battered, dying for US...i wonder how many people stood at the cross and 'got it' -- how many people fully understood for the first time......and said 'give me Jesus' in an entirely new way.....
Today, I say myself.....Give me Jesus.
Fernando Ortega sings a beautiful song that fits oh-so-well here
in the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise, give me Jesus
Give me Jesus,
Give me Jesus,
You can have all this world,
But give me Jesus
When I am alone
When I am alone
When I am alone, give me Jesus
Give me Jesus,
Give me Jesus,
You can have all this world,
But give me Jesus
When I come to die
When I come to die
When I come to die, give me Jesus
Give me Jesus,
Give me Jesus,
You can have all this world,
You can have all this world,
You can have all this world,
But give me Jesus
